MP#02: how AI changes work, My First AI podcast

By Phacet, from Paris.

Welcome to all the new subscribers from last week!

At Multiphacet, our goal is to see beyond the AI noise and make sense of what this revolution really means for our work, our teams, and our future. Let’s dive in.

⚓️ On deck

  • 📰 What we read this week: Intercom 2x post to their organization // the impact of AI on junior vs. senior staff // what happens to writing teaching in college // YC startups automating what we love about our work

  • ⭐️ Phacet insiders: MyFirstAI podcast 👋 - a series of podcast interviews with business leaders & entrepreneurs on what they actually do with AI, beyond the ambient noise & hype - made by Nico.

  • 🎨 Weekly AI Inspiration: More than real cats in a swimming pool, finally a good use of the billions poured in AI these last couple of years 😹

📰 What we read this week

  • ⭐️ AI at Intercom, by Des Traynor - A post made by one of our favorite startup - Intercom, an AI-based customer support solution. What is interesting here is the fact Intercom is more than 10y+ old and undergoing a deep transformation. Des is pushing his organization with a goal to 2x their productivity this year.

  • 🤖 Is AI replacing what we love about our jobs? A good take showing startups are going after what we love: (i) creative work (ii) human-to-human relationships. AI startups should go after the boring and repetitive work. Not what we love doing (for example writing, building visuals, planning, etc). The research shows it : workers want “automation of expense reports” or “automation of data entries” not replacing client relationships and creative strategy work.

  • 🖌️ Teaching writing in college - a long but interesting read in the New Yorker magazine. In this article through real student stories we have a glimpse on the difficulties of teaching since ChatGPT is out. We know teachers in France and can tell you they struggle ensuring their students don’t default to the easy AI way vs. think with their brain.

  • 📊 AI impact on Junior vs. Senior staff by Tomasz Tungunz - one of our favorite tech writers, Tomasz has a very famous blog. He draws a chart explaining his mental framework to understand AI’s impact. Drawing a line between the impact on the individual vs. the incentive a company has to deploy AI for its bottom line. It’s clear and simple so you can find it below.

⭐️ Phacet Insiders: how Roundtable automates their back-office with AI

For the past two years, I’ve been publishing our Millefeuille and now Multiphacet newsletters to explore how AI is shaping our work and our society.

Today, I’m thrilled to share the next step in that project: the launch of our new podcast 🎙️ MyFirstAI!

MyFirstAI is a series of interviews with leaders, entrepreneurs, and employees who actually use AI in their daily work.

Far from the hype about AI "replacing everyone" and the constant noise, these conversations focus on real-world experience, lessons learned on the ground, and the stories of the companies and people building them.

Sometimes these guests are Phacet users, sometimes not. The only thing that matters is that they tell us honestly how they’re using AI, so we can benchmark ourselves against the most forward-thinking teams in the industry.

For this first episode, my guest is Julien Fissette, co-founder and CPO of Roundtable, a startup specializing in asset servicing.

He shares:
👉 his experience with AI at BCG Gamma.
👉 how they automate Roundtable’s back-office.
👉 insights on asset servicing and differences between France and Germany.
👉 and reflections after 12 months of integrating AI into their workflows.

More episodes are coming soon with Antoine Fabre, CEO of Tomorro, and Jordane Giuly, CEO of Defacto. Make sure to follow us on YouTube at @PhacetAI so you don’t miss them. 👋

It’s also my first time on the other side of the mic and I can confirm it’s a real job. I’m learning by doing, so I’d love any feedback you might have.

As they say, enjoy listening!
